Ollie the Octopus has got eight big boots to fill
The Blackpool Sea Life Centre has signed up Ollie, the cousin of dead sage Paul the Psychic Octopus, to predict results for the rest of Blackpool’s Premier League home games this season.
Both octopuses were born in Weymouth, but Paul was packed off to live at a Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany. After his exploits for Die Mannschaftat Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010, Ollie’s aquarium was keen to see if psychic powers ran in the family. Says keeper Carey Duckhouse:
Paul was the first to do predictions and we thought we’d give it a go with Ollie.
Before the football season started, we got him to forecast who would win the Premier League after putting four boxes containing the names of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool in his aquarium.
He chose Chelsea and also predicted that Roberto Mancini would be the first Premier League manager to lose his job, Wolves would finish bottom and Wayne Rooney would be the top scorer.
Barring Rooney pulling off the greatest comeback since Lazarus, Ollie’s on course for three out of four – not too shabby. Enough to warrant the title Ollie the Slightly Psychic Octopus, anyway.
