French World Cup team fall out, refuse to pass to each other

Henry being dropped sparks player revolt

South Africa France WCup Soccer

The Netherlands squad seem to be distinctly chummy this year, so it looks like France will have to implode alone.

With the fuel already doused – lacklustre warm-up games, losing Lassana Diarra to injury, and coach Raymond Domenech having one foot out the door – it appears the spark to set everything off is Thierry Henry.

According to the Daily Mail, “sources close to the French team” have revealed the squad is split over Henry’s substitute role at this year’s World Cup; with the majority demanding the Barcelona striker and Arsenal’s Abou Diaby are put in the starting XI for tomorrow’s match against Uruguay, at the expense of Yoann Gourcuff and Sidney Govou.

It’s even led to players allegedly refusing to pass to each other:

During their recent friendly against Costa Rica, it was suggested that Nicolas Anelka refused to pass to Gourcuff while Franck Ribery is also said to have been selective in his passing during the embarrassing recent defeat by China.

What would you do if you were Domenech? Risk losing the dressing room by not starting Henry and Diaby – or risk losing the match by playing them?
