So if Italian clubs are rubbish and Spain’s aren’t keen that leaves…

The Spoiler is often reluctant to direct its daggers at Arsene Wenger when he errs as there is so much to admire about him, but if he wants to go poking his tongue out at our favorite league then a line has clearly been crossed.

Admittedly, if one of his key Serie A criticisms relates to trading off past glories then that is one of his areas of expertise. Oh no. We didn’t.

Asked by the Italian press about the prospect of Robin van Persie leaving the Gunners for Juventus this summer, he sneerily responded:

“There is no reason why a top player, a big champion would want a move to Serie A in terms of the prestige of the league, the level of play or financial considerations. If he moves there I will buy you a caramello.”

Top marks for the quip at the end monsieur, but doesn’t that make it all the more embarrassing that your side were thrashed 4-0 in the Champions League by an AC Milan team devoid of these apparent “top players” and “big champions”?

And if van Persie does decide that it is time to go, but comes round to Wenger’s thinking about Italy and doesn’t attract any interest from Barcelona or Real Madrid, then isn’t the Frenchman just encouraging him to fill the now annual vacancy of Arsenal star deserting for Manchester City.

Paddy Power rate Manchester City the 5/2 second favorites to be RVP’s next club, after Juventus at 2/1 funnily enough.
